Tom Sawyer’s RV Park

Categories Campground Reviews

This park has a small feel to it, but it actually has 100 sites! Tom Sawyer’s RV Park is very picturesque and relatively quiet. No pool and no playground. Just plenty of views and nature trails.

We have no idea what’s nearby, other than Memphis just across the river. Plenty of sightseeing to do over there, which we’ve done on other trips without the RV. Each time that we have stayed at this particular park, we just hunker down and enjoy the view. By the time we arrive, we’ve covered a lot of miles and just want to relax before continuing on.

It’s very important to know that you must be aware of the river conditions before you arrive. The park’s website has a link to the necessary information which determines whether the park has to close.

Road Trip 2017

Our first trip here was in our travel trailer as part of Road Trip 2017 as Stop #5. I was happy that we were able to get a site with a view of the river. The unfortunate part of this stayover was the rain. And the fact that we stayed only one night, June 18, 2017.

Here’s the view from my dinette window looking south.

And here’s the view looking north.

The rain went away, so we took a walk. As it turns out, this is my favorite park thus far on Road Trip 2017. Very peaceful. Quiet. Calm.

As it turns, out, there’s a pond behind our section of the park.

And a huge field separating our section of the park from the fifth-wheel.

There’s also another pond by the fifth-wheels.

From here, we head towards Nashville, TN.

Road Trip 2018

In 2018, we planned a little better and stayed longer! This time we stayed two nights–arriving on May 24 and departing May 26, 2018. And this time in our fifth wheel with an even more expansive view of the river. There is actually a section of the park dedicated to fifth wheels, which is where we stayed this time.

Here is the view from our patio. This section of the river is busy – barges go by frequently. But they’re not noisy. So it’s an interesting and ever-changing view of the Mighty Mississippi!

Beyond our “front yard” is a huge lawn. We can see neighbors way on the other side. We stayed over there last year, but we have a lot more space in our outdoor living area over here this year.

And seriously, who wouldn’t want to get up to see this sunrise?

And just as we did last time, we left here heading towards Nashville, TN to stay with friends and then we move on to Best Holiday Travel RV Park in Chattanooga.

Good thing we didn’t plan to stop here in 2019 as major flooding in the Mississippi River Valley closed down the park!
