In the Beginning: Road Trip 2017

Categories Road Trips

We purchased the first RV that we owned together in the fall of 2016 with some preconceived ideas about where we would go, but it didn’t take long to decide that we would make plans for something… more epic! At least, more epic than we had originally envisioned.

As part of our work life in recent years, we attend (and sometimes speak at) a lot of IT conferences. However, we have grown weary of flying. Airplanes are crowded, passengers (and sometimes flight attendants) are grumpy, the food–whether at the airport or on the plane–is often less than satisfactory. It’s just not fun anymore.

Our solution in 2017? Let’s make a road trip to accommodate our conference schedule and meet up with business partners and industry colleagues along the way! And so began our Road Trip Summer 2017.

We departed from Las Vegas on June 14, 2017, with our first stop in Arizona. The road trip continued as a loop – with some backtracking – around the US, and ended in Las Vegas on October 9, 2017. Our route covered approximately 16,840 miles and 21 states.

You can review our route on the map below, beginning with the Start pin. Each pin tells you the next stop on the trip and the line connects the destinations to show our route. It gets a little confusing when we go to South Dakota twice, but the tooltip will tell you which stop is next and zooming in helps. Click on a pin to see more information, get directions, link to a campground, and maybe even a blog post! Zoom in and drag the map with your mouse to see more precise locations for each stop.
