Springfield KOA

Categories Campground Reviews

Well, I guess you can’t have a winner every time. Good thing we were at Springfield KOA in Rochester, IL, for one night only (August 14, 2017) because I felt like we took a giant step backward. (That said, it still doesn’t take the last place for this road trip.) Wifi is nonexistent. Boosted cell signal sucks. Neighbors are way too close. (Fortunately, they were nice!) Dog park unappealing. The park’s electrical power went down for a long while. Grumble…

That said, now that we’ve had many more campground stays under our belt, I guess it wasn’t as bad as it felt at the time. I think the difference between a really nice Holiday KOA and a Journey KOA was quite jarring in this case and I wasn’t prepared for it.

In the photo below, the fan is by the door because there are SO MANY BEES! Yikes! Not worried about getting stung but dang… they’re out in force here. Apparently, the bees are “brought in” to pollinate the corn…so we’re not sitting out tonight.

We have no trees.. the ones you see in the pictures are on other sites. I guess they figure if you’re here for one night you don’t care. But I do. Glad we brought our own shade. Oh wait-not sitting outside. Sigh. Very narrow “lawn”. The edge of the neighbor’s slide out is within 2 feet of our picnic table.

On the other side of us, the neighboring site is fancier (and later occupied by an Airstream) with concrete patio and furniture. But that table is literally inches from my bedroom window. Not that they’re using it (yet) but good grief, I think this is the closest I’ve seen a campground try to cram together RVs. I would not happily stay here for several days.

This dog park has only tree on the end, so no shade to speak of. Well, to be fair, maybe there is in the morning. But compared to our last location, this is disappointing. Fortunately, there was a big green space area near our RV where I could walk the girls.

I did manage to find the corn!

I would have liked to explored more Lincoln-related history here, but we have places to be on Road Trip 2017, so we must be moving on! Our next stop is Sleepy Hollow RV Park & Campground.
