Flying Goose Campground

Categories Campground Reviews

We were here for two nights, arriving on September 13, 2017. We found our happy place in Fairmont, MN! We scored an end site with a super huge “lawn”!

Behind us is nothing but trees – yay! Unfortunately everywhere else there are seasonal RVs but… we are far away from them, the RV owners aren’t here since its post-Labor Day and midweek. It occurred to me that my house in Vegas actually has closer neighbors (although we’re separated by concrete walls). But with selective vision, I can enjoy my space.

And with selective vision, I can even see the lake from here.

We took a walk around the park and could get a close-up, unobstructed view of the lake. (Not a pond here but a lake!)

This is our view of the embankment from the lakeside… lots of green space for anyone to enjoy, including a couple of glider swings.

Walking back to our site, it’s so nice to have a big space.

And then, just when we were enjoying what we had at our site, the owner paid us a visit. Dean makes so many friends and this time was no exception. The owner told us where to enjoy some lake time at sunset just steps away from our site. I think this is information not normally shared with the average visitor here. So of course we investigated and are even happier with this place!

Just a beautiful place to hang out and feel like we have the place to ourselves!

Lately, I’ve decided that my metric for liking a campground is whether I would stay there a week if I didn’t have to be there for other reasons. Very few places on our trip reach that level but this is one that I would definitely try to return to in the future.

That said, I think the timing is key. High Summer probably wouldn’t make me happy here due to crowds, but it’s a very chill vibe right now because hardly anyone is here. Yet the weather is summery. 87 degrees- Had to turn on A/C! First time in weeks!

Lakeside Dining

The owners of the campground recommended The Marina Lodge for lunch. (Ooh, they have canoe rentals!) It was such a lovely day for outside dining. We were even visited by a hummingbird.
