House-less and Hitting the Road!

Categories Full-time Living, RV Lifestyle

After spending two seasons traveling America by RV in 2017 and 2018, we have sold our home in Las Vegas and are committing ourselves to a full-time RV lifestyle until… we’re ready to settle down again many years in the future!

I can’t really pinpoint the time or place that our decision to go full-time was made. However, I do know  when we returned home from our last extended trip in November 2018 that we assumed it would take us a year to prepare the house for sale and downsize our household.

Why go full-time? Well, we love to travel, we really love to travel in our RV in particular, and we found our trips getting longer and longer. So we asked ourselves, why pay for a house that we’re not living in very much? With no jobs or family tying us to the Las Vegas area, it was an easy decision for us.

Then in February 2019, we decided to see what our house was worth. Once we took that step, our life changed in a hurry! We got a reasonable offer quickly, and then Dean (aka The Machine) went into overdrive hosting garage sales, donating goods to Salvation Army and SafeNest, choosing what to keep in the RV, and packing up the few remaining items for storage. He says it took 3 months, but I think it really was only 2, which was nothing short of a miracle!

As houseless people with no permanent location for living, we’re officially nomads now! Fortunately, South Dakota supports the nomadic lifestyle and enables people like us to establish residency. So we squeezed in a quick road trip to Rapid City  in March to fulfill the requirements and now have our South Dakota driver’s licenses. Our vehicle registration is still a work in process.

We spent our last few days in Las Vegas at Oasis Las Vegas RV Resort as we finalized the sale and prepared for the next road trip. We had already booked various campgrounds for 2019 to revisit places we liked in 2018, but this year we are spending more time in those locations. We also had planned to be more leisurely in traveling from point A to point B – that means, no more driving two days in a row. And we had planned to return to Las Vegas at the end of the trip. The new part of the plan is to stay at Oasis for the winter months so we can continue to enjoy our Vegas Golden Knights season tickets. Go Knights!

So here we go… We’re currently driving through Arizona and working our way east over the next couple of weeks. We’re very much looking forward to our Varga Ventures!
