We’re the Vargas and We’re RV Addicts…

Categories RV Lifestyle

We bought our first RV together in 2016, thinking that we would travel occasionally on weekends or maybe a week or two here and there in the great Southwest region of the United States.

After three trips – two of which were to Pahrump, just over one hour away from our home in Las Vegas, NV and one boondocking adventure with my brother and a friend in Arizona and Utah – we realized we were hooked.

First, we decided to plan a month-long trip. Which we decided to extend to a two-month trip. And then ultimately it became a three-and-half-month trip. If it weren’t for the fact that we bought season tickets for hockey in Las Vegas, we would have made it a longer trip! I’ll confess now we’re considering a longer trip in 2018, but we’re waiting for the dust to settle on a few projects before we set a start date. We already know the end date because…hockey season.

Our first RV together was a 25′ travel trailer, a 2016 Keystone Bullet 248RKS. We were very pleased to snag it and felt that we got a pretty good deal on it at Camping World. However, that experience was not flawless and we’ll explain more about that in a future post. Nonetheless, we were happy with the Bullet, and it fit our needs perfectly… in the beginning.

For short trips, the Bullet was perfectly fine for us. However, on our extended multi-month trip, we found that it was just a bit too cramped on the inside. I don’t care if Dean was a mile away when I started cooking dinner. If I wanted to open the refrigerator, which was positioned right by the door to go in and out, Dean would magically appear!

Although we did spend a majority of our time sitting outside, we found the inside to be less than desirable when we wanted to relax in the evening. Despite our best efforts to enhance the couch with different pillows and the addition of ottomans, we just couldn’t get comfortable.

But we made do and we had adventures galore, which we’ll be describing in future posts!

And we loved those adventures so much that we just had to start making plans to do it all over again in 2018. Except that we really wanted another RV. And that meant another truck. And as much as we loved the old RV and truck, we REALLY love the replacements. If you keep following our story, you’ll learn why!

Our goal with this blog is to share our adventures with anyone who’s interested. Topics we plan to cover include:

  • What features about our old and new RVs did we/do we love or hate?
  • Where have we been and what was it like?
  • How did we plan our trips?
  • How do we set up our rig for living on the road?
  • What kinds of tech do we use on the road?
  • And whatever else we get asked about!

We’ll share what we’ve learned along the way, which could be helpful if you’re new to RV-ing. And even if you’re a pro, you still might pick up something interesting because after all, we all bring unique perspectives to the experience and have a lot to learn from one another.
