Barstow/Calicoa KOA

Categories Campground Reviews

Wow, what a difference from Wyoming a couple of weeks back! We didn’t set up there because it was too cold (40s F) and windy. Here it’s too hot (94F)! We were only one night, October 8, 2017, so it serves its purpose, but it’s better than I had expected for being in the middle of the desert. Nice and level, so easy for Dean to set up. Curiously, they have an archery range here. And a ghost town nearby.

We settled for a basic pull-through because we’re here just one night. But it’s not bad. Very spacious in fact. But no lawn… it’s desert. The night sky is spectacular unless the moon is bright.

In front of us is a deluxe site. Actually, it is prettier than the photo shows, with a nice patio and fire pit, plus shade. If we ever find ourselves here again, that’s where I would want to be.

We can see the Calico town marker on the mountains from our sofa-side window. The detail of the mountains isn’t particularly sharp in this photo and it’s not really as drab as it looks. I can see greens, reds, purples, and browns.
