Cross Creek Camping Resort

Categories Campground Reviews

Based on the campground website, I was looking forward to Cross Creek Camping Resort, but really it’s not our favorite sort of place.

We had a small yard for our pull-through. Our site was “meh”. Dean thought the back-in sites looked better, meaning they looked like they were more spacious and more nicely landscaped. We didn’t get the greenery behind us as we did in WV. (Who booked this, anyway?… oh, me sigh) We’re learning our preferences as we go…and Dean’s backup skills are improving. It’s a shame I didn’t know that before booking a pull-through.

Ah well. We were here for five days, from July 19 to July 25, 2017, as part of Road Trip 2017. Officially, it’s Stop #14. Fortunately, we had other things to go do.

On the one hand, there was a walk to the lake shown here.

But the trail wasn’t particularly well-maintained. I suspect most people who come here choose it for the pool and other amenities for kids. The campground is also close to Alum Creek State Park which is probably why people stay here.

There are bunnies all over the place here.

German Village

We went into German Village in Columbus and enjoyed a variety of activities including lunch at Schmidt’s Sausage Haus.

And wine tasting at Hausfrau Haven. You can select a bottle from the shelves and then sit down at a bar where a server will provide wine glasses for your selection. They had some interesting selections here, including Hungarian wine (as pointed out by my Hungarian husband and friends!) and a bottle of wine from Gamble Vineyards, which I have personally visited in Napa, CA. You don’t normally see Gamble “out in the wild” like this, so we had to imbibe.

Walking around the residential areas of German Village, you can see so many beautiful gardens. Definitely worth the stroll to walk off lunch and wine!

And then there was this, The Book Loft of German Village. I made it two rooms in, got three books, and figured I better leave before my husband would object (even more) strenuously and while he could still carry my purchases.

Next up…Elizabethtown Crossroads Campground in Kentucky!
