Tower Campground

Categories Campground Reviews

On the plus side, Dean is happy we have asphalt and a very organized system of hookups for the next five nights (arrived August 17, 2017, and departed August 22). I’m happy we have a fairly big lawn to ourselves. But that’s about all that I’m happy about at this campground that feels like it’s in the middle of town. Maybe it’s not in the middle, but it’s definitely in town. And who wants their back window to be looking into the back window of another rig?

That said, we’ve discovered that even when the campground is disappointing, we often meet people who become our friends. And we can’t complain about that!

Dean was happy that we can set up on asphalt instead of gravel and there is a very organized system of hookups. I’m happy we now have a new side shade because otherwise we’d be blasted by the afternoon sun. And we do have a fairly big lawn to ourselves.

Our view from our “lawn chairs” is shown below. Everybody in Sioux Falls drives through here all day long, or so it seems. And if that’s not enough, there are people and children who think driving their golf carts around in circles all day long through here is the most fun ever. I’m having “get off my lawn” syndrome. Grumble.

Sioux Falls Sights

Before attending conference-related events, we treated ourselves to lunch and shopping in downtown Sioux Falls, which turned out to be next to the place we had to go for the speaker dinner.

It’s beautiful along the river. Not shown here are many different styles of sculptures along the walkways by the river. Definitely worth a visit.

We saw this bus across the street while we were eating lunch so decided to investigate. We then walked out with plenty of veggies and meats to restock the freezer and veggie bins. The young man in charge here sells goods from his grandparents’ farm. Happy to support the local economy!

Our total eclipse experience on August 21, 2017, was non-existent. Fortunately, we had the Internet.

The next day was beautiful, so we went to see the Falls on the Big Sioux River. There are lots of sidewalks around the river and a bridge to cross it, so you can get up close and personal with different sections of the falls. Especially after the rainfall, the river and the falls were stunning!
