Columbus Woods-n-Waters Campground

Categories Campground Reviews

New state, new campground. Nice and chill- just the way I like it. And we have a big site with a woodsy view. That makes me happy too. Settling down to get some work done over the next few days – not as much sightseeing on the itinerary.

Lots of space and trees here at this 108-site Columbus, IN campground. We arrived on August 1, 2017, and stayed four nights.

This is my primary view. Trees make me happy. That’s one of the reasons I love Ents.

Strolling around the park, we find the body of water termed a lake. Not sure when a pond becomes a lake… surely there’s a standard?

Most of all, I’m wondering how far does one have to go in Indiana to escape the corn?

In Search of Food and Wine

We drove around the farmlands of Columbus, IN to find wineries. Simmons Winery had some decent reds and some white hybrids I’d never encountered before: Chardonel and Marechal Foch. (Notice the corn across the road.) I tried these wines, but I didn’t love them. There was also Vignoles which I didn’t try. Simmons also has a brewery (sorry, we didn’t try the brews) and a pizzeria. The pizza was quite good.

Next, we moved on to Chateau de Pique. It’s a beautiful location. There we encountered the Steuben grape – I can say that I’m not a fan. It’s interesting to see different grapes as we move across the country – but some are better than others, in my opinion.

The Vineyard on property – corn is not nearby.

It’s beautiful out back, too. Lots more space out of view for picnicking.
