Singing Hills RV Park & Campground

Categories Campground Reviews

We arrived at Singing Hills RV Park & Campground on July 28, 2017, and departed on August 1. This time we have more shade and a fair amount of green space. There is lots more tent camping here than we’ve run across in the past.

We practically have a lawn. We wish our awning was on this side- we’d hang out over here!

This stop was a bit of a wild card. The website was not hugely informative. Furthermore, there were not a lot of pictures available online to aid decision making. But the location was ideal for weekend adventuring. Now that we’ve been on the road 6.5 weeks, we have a better sense of what we like and don’t. I would stay here next time we come to the area. It’s a quiet, unassuming little park with nice character and a cute pond.

Here we’re looking back at the campground … that red speck in the distance is ours!

In addition, there’s a huge grassy field.

Neighbors.

Not sure what kind of tree this is…it looks like a grape tree but that can’t be right… can it? Asking for a friend.

Mammoth Cave

Another redeeming factor is the campground’s proximity to Mammoth Cave. We took the basic 2-hour tour which was fascinating and much more impressive than we can convey in a photo. Here’s where we went our first day.

On our second day, we took this tour.

We’d definitely go back to take other tours available there. Be sure to book online though – this is a busy place!

Mammoth Dome, shown below, was more spectacular in person. Go see it!

It’s rather mind-blowing to think they have mapped 405 miles that are connected and there are assumed to be many more hundreds of miles still to be discovered. Also thinking about the geologic processes to create this system is pretty trippy.

We couldn’t go on all the tours during our stay, but have resolved to return in the future for other tours and also nearby caves that aren’t part of the National Park system.

Local Provisions

Oh lest I forget… when in Kentucky…

Pretty sunflowers welcome you when parking at Dennison’s Roadside Market. We picked up some vegetables here.

And we found some Kentucky wine with an interesting name. We enjoyed a taste or two sitting by the campfire our last night here because it’s cooled off enough at night to enjoy a fire.

We move north from here into Indiana to stay at Columbus Woods-N-Waters Campground.
