Lufkin KOA Journey

Categories Campground Reviews

Our fifth stop on Road Trip 2019 finds us at another KOA, this time in Lufkin, TX. Here we stayed at the Lufkin KOA Journey from April 23 to 25. It’s a 33-site campground that had quite a large store with RV supplies and gifts considering its small size.

Our site has a decent amount of lawn bordered by the laundry room, so it was a great place to walk the girls. And you can see above that we had a decent view of a field. It looked like there were some other sites with decent views as well, but it’s the luck of the draw as to which one you’ll get here. At least the pads are concrete.

This is not the sort of place that we would be likely to stay for a week, but it certainly was suitable for our needs as we head towards locations that we have been dreaming about for months!

Downtown Lufkin

We didn’t spend much time in Lufkin, but we did manage to get ourselves downtown for lunch. There wasn’t much activity for a Wednesday afternoon, but we were relieved to be able to parallel park our beast of a dually on the street here.

Our dining choice for our “day off” was Manhattan Fine Dining, which is inside a professional building and down the stairs. There were not a lot of patrons while we were there, but it seems to be a popular place based on the reviews that we read. The owner came out to greet us while we were dining, which was nice.

You wouldn’t know by the restaurant’s name, but the food here is Italian, steak, and seafood. And… Indian food. Interesting combo…

Dean had lasagna and I had a salmon salad. Everything was quite good. Another reason we chose this restaurant was the wine selection. Although I think during lunch, the selection was more limited. Which didn’t make sense to me, but… whatever. I could be misremembering. Maybe it was wine by the glass only? I do know it wasn’t served with a peel-off lid like the wine we had in Amarillo!

After lunch, we noticed the park across the street from the restaurant’s building with locks. The only other time we’d seen this sort of thing was in Europe. We certainly didn’t expect to see it in Lufkin, TX!

Road Trip 2019 Continues

Up to this point on our trip, we had been staying two nights at each stop. When we finally arrived in Louisiana, we started slowing down a bit. A relatively last-minute change (meaning that in late March, we changed the reservation we made in February from Lake Charles), our itinerary led us next to Lafayette KOA.
