Ozark/Fort Rucker KOA Journey

Categories Campground Reviews

We loved our stay in Pensacola Beach so much, but we had a good long stay there and it was getting hot. It was definitely time to start moving north, and we were looking forward to our next big destination. However, we have our limits on how far we like to drive in a day and couldn’t make it there without a couple of stops. So we settled on Ozark/Fort Rucker KOA Journey as Stop #9 on Road Trip 2019.

As a KOA Journey, it’s an older, but decent campground for a short stay. Out of 65 total sites, there are only two premium sites here. These two overlook a pond and have quite a bit of side yard if you can snag them, but those sites were occupied when we came through.

We were able to choose from one of two sites at the end of the campground, and well… we decided afterward that we chose poorly. We chose the site with more shade, but our satellite dish got absolutely zero reception in that location. We’ll never know if the sunny site would have fared better. Once we’re all set up, there’s no moving. However, the cable definitely worked here!

Most KOA Journey campgrounds are on the basic side, but this one had some nice landscaping features to improve aesthetics.

On the other hand, the layout of the sites on our end of the park was a bit strange. Our door opened out to look at the front end of another site aiming right at us. But there was a wide-open grassy community that we all shared that was a plus.

Apparently, management has had a lot of complaints about sugar ants in the area. There were signs in the front office explaining they have little control over it. When they led us to our site, they sprayed everything down as well. I get it — you can only control Mother Nature so much. I did see a lot of ants as I walked around the perimeter of the park, but fortunately, none of them made it into our rig!

As for the cell signal here, we were getting 5.8 Mbps on Verizon and 11.2 Mbps on AT&T. Not happy with either of these speeds, but fortunately we’re not here long.

We weren’t even here long enough to explore the local area. We must not have gone anywhere for sight-seeing or dining as I have zero pictures to show for it! This stop was merely a place to pass through as we made our way next to Perry, Georgia.
