Fair Harbor RV Park & Campground

Categories Campground Reviews

Continuing our northward migration as part of Road Trip 2019, we landed for a couple of days at Fair Harbor RV Park & Campground in Perry, GA, from June 10-12, 2019.

When we arrived, we were told that we had a choice of our original site, which the reservation described as Premium Full Service Pull-Thru, or a back-in site on the pond. Normally, for short trips, Dean prefers the pull-throughs, but I gave him the option and he agreed that we could get the site by the pond. When I asked the clerk in the office whether it was also a premium site, he said that all the sites in the campground are premium. Hmm, ok…. after a walkabout through the campground, I think our definitions of “premium” differ.

Here’s the view from the site we were originally slated for. That’s our rig across the pond.

Regardless, we were happy with our “upgrade” to the water view after we saw where we would have been. Although we were not on a beach like we were in Florida, we did have a better view then we had at the little KOA in Alabama the past 2 days.

And we had plenty of side yard which gives us lots of room to walk the dogs. However, the recent rains also turned that area into a huge breeding ground for many flying things that I didn’t like. The rigs in the distance below are in a newer section of the campground that appears to cater to the more extended-stay crowd.

We were spoiled with no bugs at the beach, but we had to deal with 3 flies inside almost immediately after arrival and I had to douse myself in lotion to deal with mosquitos. In fact, the second day at this campground, the sides of our rigs were covered with mosquitos. Ugh! It’s definitely not the campgrounds fault, but something to be prepared for.

This campground is on the larger side, with 153 sites. They are spread out in different sections, and there is an amazing amount of space to walk around, with or without dogs. Some sites are close together, and others are a bit more spacious. However, I would not consider them consistently “premium.”

That said, it was quiet and (mostly) comfortable during our stay, bugs and humidity notwithstanding.

Probably the most interesting thing was a section of the campground that the map shows as a dog park. However, these are the strangest looking dogs I’ve ever seen!

Due to the short stay, we didn’t explore this area much. Walmart was one exit up the freeway, so we took the opportunity to stock up on groceries and supplies.

We heard about the Museum of Aviation in Warner Robins, GA, which is about a half-hour drive from the campground. It’s free to visit, but you need at least half a day to enjoy it and we didn’t have the kind of time.

We were not particularly inspired by the dining options in the area. We settled on Jalisco Mexican Restaurant, which is right next door to Walmart. There’s no website, but the reviews on Google Maps were good enough, so we gave it a go. It’s decent, reasonably priced, close to the campground, and we didn’t have to cook! It was very hot and muggy during our stay, so we were happy to enjoy some A/C and margaritas (and food, of course)!

As for cell signal here, AT&T was the winner. The Verizon signal was 5.45 Mbps whereas AT&T was 52.4 Mbps. Times like these are when I’m glad that we decided to add a backup phone to our tech repertoire!

One more stop along the way before we settle down for a few weeks. I love the name – Travelers Rest, SC!
